Drug Makers Trying to Block Approval of New Implant?

According to the President and CEO of Cyberonics, the maker of the soon to be approved vagus nerve stimulation device, "an unnamed source" leaked derogatory information to the Wall Street Journal in an attempt to halt it's approval. Do makers of conventional therapies like antidepressants really fear they will lose their hold on the depression treatment market as he claims? Conspiracy theories aside, it would be a wonderful advancement in medicine if it helps the many people who are currently going from medication to medication without relief.
