Brooke Shields Recounts Her Ordeal With Postpartum Depression in New Book

Tuesday June 7, 2005
In the May 9, 2005 issue of People magazine appeared an excerpt from Brooke Shields' new book And Down Came the Rain, in which she bares her soul about her experiences with postpartum depression. She reveals that her problems first began when Rowan was born and she was unable to form a bond with her. She felt like "a complete stranger to me", said Shields. At her lowest point, she had thoughts of jumping from the window and seeing her baby thrown against the wall. Thanks to Paxil and a sympathetic baby nurse, Brooke was eventually able to recover and develop a loving relationship with her baby. Buy the Book

To Brooke, may she get this. Sounds like your was as severe as mine. Mine were almost 19 years ago. Doctors automattically assumed I was biplolar. One doctor didnt believe in Post partum depression, till my father called him a quack and said I had just had a baby and hadnt he ever seen DONAHUE, who had put guests on that had it.YES back when we were younger. I believe how bad you had it hon. ITs Scarry. I had it not once but twice, with my second daughter. but it was delayed a few months with her. Some times woman who are deprived of proper sleep compounded with a change of hormones, I think can have it more severe. I figured it out . FOR ME, and it may be genetic too, BC some where in my family,Insomnia for a few days sends us into kind of like a manic state. Meds helped only to get me to finally sleep. Once i had (NOT CAUGHT UP) YOu never get back lost sleep. , But as soon as I had reached rem sleep for a week or two. I was okay. I’ve been fine ever since. Donahue did run a story about woman who had hurt their babies or themselves after giving birth. I think some woman’s change in Hormone can be more severe then others. Unfortunatly, I had a doctor who didnt believe in POST PARTUM. The more manic I got in his report HIGHS NOT LOWS, the more meds he could pump into me. Once I got home and slowly returned to normal. It was over. I learned, for me, to stay healthy, I have to sleep, at least 8 hours at night. I’ve been myself ever since…Brooke your not alone. I’m just some one who had it a long time ago.
