Exercise Helps Severe Depression: Are the Studies Conclusive?

Exercise seems to help those with severe depression, but the Harvard Mental Health Letter also notes biases that may have affected the studies.

Much of what this short article discusses applies to most studies (bias, patient compliance, subtle investigator influences). There’s no reference to valid, complete studies or even a conclusion…it’s just a rather pointless, somewhat negative commentary.

I’m not sure why, but sometimes when I exercise I end up feeling incredibly depressed and cranky. Sometimes it actually helps me feel better, but not usually.
