Is It Clinical Depression or Sadness?

Although depression is often thought of a being an extreme state of sadness, there is a vast difference between clinical depression and sadness. Sadness is a part of being human, a natural reaction to painful circumstances. All of us will experience sadness at some point in our lives. I need some advice, I am 19 years old and i still do daily things but i always feel empty inside like im sad all the time but i do not show it to anyone. I always try having a smile on my face, but inside i feel like i mess up all the time and don’t fell happy with myself and i am wondering if it is just sadness or a stage of depression
