If you live in the New York City vicinity and are not currently doing well on a medication, you may be eligible to volunteer for brain imaging studies being conducted by The New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University.
To be eligible, you must be suffering from major depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder or panic disorder and between the ages of 18 to 75.
One of the benefits of participation is that you will receive free treatment--either inpatient or outpatient depending upon your needs--for up to five months. You will also receive $150 for a PET scan and $50 for an MRI scan. Outpatients with receive compensation for time and travel expenses.
Participants should be aware that they will need to be off medication for at least three weeks while they go through a washout period. This washout period could bring an increased risk of depression.
