Studies suggest that an imbalance in certain essential fatty acids  - called omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids - may be associated with depression.  These fatty acids are responsible for controlling inflammation within the body.  When there is too little of the omega-3 fatty acids, which help to reduce inflammation, a variety of health problems, such as heart disease and depression, may result.  Research indicates that consuming fish or fish oil supplements, which are rich in the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, may help these conditions.

Apart from controlling depression, Omega 3 is also quite effective in treating high BP, diabetes and many other ailments. Unfortunately this Essential Fatty Acid cannot be synthesized by our body. It has to be taken through external supplements.
