Question: Why Does It Seem That More and More People Are Being Diagnosed With Depression?
Answer: Some would say it's all the stress of living in modern times, but I think it has a lot to do with people being more educated and open about it. I know people in my own life who have exhibited all the symptoms, but have never been diagnosed. Why? Because they come from a generation that placed a lot of stigma on mental illness, including depression. To admit to clinical depression would be the equivalent of being mentally ill in their eyes, so they cope the best they can and chalk it up to being part of life. People these days are seeing that they don't have to just live with it.
