Question: Most People Get 6-7 Hours of Sleep. Why Do I Need More?
Answer: It's probably true that many people get by with that much. It's also true that many people in industrialized societies are chronically sleep deprived. There would be no need for alarm clocks if people were getting all the rest they needed. I wouldn't worry about the so-called norm. If you are still tired then your body needs more rest. I sleep at least 10 hours each night to feel rested. This may not be the norm, but it's normal for me. I've been this way since I was small child. It was only in the past few years that I finally gave in and stopped trying to be "normal". When I did, my depression subsided quite a bit. I notice now that if I lose sleep my mood suffers for it. My best advice is forget what everybody else is doing and listen to your body.
