Performing a breathing exercise is a quick way to calm yourself when you are feeling anxious or stressed.

Here's a simple technique:

  • Lie down or sit in a comfortable position.
  • Close your eyes and slowly inhale. Allow your stomach to rise, rather than your chest, while slowly counting to five.
  • Gradually exhale for another slow count of five.
  • Continue the pattern until you feel more relaxed.
