Did you know that pill splitting is a simple way to save money on your prescription medications? Pill splitting involves purchasing pills that are double your normal dose and then using a device called a pill splitter to cut them in two, effectively doubling the number of doses you get. Because the price generally doesn't go up that much for a higher dose pill, you can also cut your price per dose significantly. To give an idea of what kind of savings can be achieved, a 2002 study reported that if pill splitting had been used by those purchasing antidepressants in the year 2000, U.S. consumers would have saved $1.7 billion. Not all pills can be safely split, however, so always consult your doctor before utilizing this method.
