Certain antidepressants may be stimulating, especially when you first begin taking them. This may cause you to temporarily have trouble sleeping as you adjust to the medication. If you are experiencing insomnia as a result of taking an antidepressant, here are some tips that may help you get more rest:

  • Take your medication in the morning.
  • Avoid caffeinated food and beverages.
  • Get regular exercise at least four or five hours before bedtime.
  • Develop good sleep hygiene.
  • Talk with your doctor about temporarily taking a sleep aid at bedtime.
