Owen Wilson's Suicide Attempt Confirmed

Tuesday August 28, 2007

It has been confirmed by Extra that actor Owen Wilson, who starred in such movies as Wedding Crashers and Starsky & Hutch, attempted suicide on Sunday morning. Extra was able to confirm his attempt through Santa Monica Police Department logs, which listed the reason for the 911 call from his home.

Although there has been no official comment on what happened, gossip magazines Star and The National Enquirer, who both broke the story, said he had cut both wrists and taken an "indeterminate amount of pills."

His brother Luke was reported to have found him semi-conscious in his Los Angeles home on Sunday morning after he had taken the overdose. He was rushed to St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica before he was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was listed in “good condition” at the time of Extra's report Tuesday morning.

On Monday a statement was released through his publicist saying, "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."

We wish Owen well and hope he is getting whatever help he needs.

This is just such sad news, hearing about Owen Wilson’s suicide attempt. He is such a talented person and I greatly admire his work. If people are real fans of Owen Wilson’s, then I feel they should take a caring additude towards him and allow him to heal in private in peace.

This is proof that depression can hit anyone…any sex, race, class, etc., and there does not have to be a reason to be depressed. The pain just gets to the point where a person thinks they cannot take it anymore. I am praying for his recovery and I hope he takes advantage of the help that is available for those suffering from depression, and I hope he realizes he cannot do it alone.

I just think it is sad that when this all began there was the shroud of secrecy. If he had slipped into a diabetic coma it would have been alright but once again it is perceived as something to be hidden rather than used to highlight this can happen ANYBODY!

I was really shocked when I saw this. He is so talented. But as the others have pointed out is does show that depression can affect anyone.

According to my book, he could have been diagnosed as bipolar earlier. His birthday is 11/18/68 and when you look at his astrology you see that he has Kalaparusha Yoga which is the biggest indicator for bipolar. You can download a copy of my book on my site. Psychiatric Astrology.

I am so sorry to learn that he also suffers from this wretched disease, and such a talented young man he is! I too pray for his recovery, and I know that with God’s help and the support of his family, friends, and loyal fans he will live strong. God Bless you Owen!

(10) Neata says:

Many in the limelight are closet depressed. Being the center of attention is another way of making sure that no one comes close enough to be see the pain. I always thought his eyes looked sad. The strong need for validation from others usually results as an inability to validate one’s self. If I never feel good enough, if I can’t love myself, then no matter how much money, wealth, beauty, I have, I feel worthless.

I,too, pray for a speedy recovery (body, mind, and soul.My granddaughter did similar things to try to forget the emotional pain. Her Psychiatrists told her that she was “hopeless”. She later wrote in her Journal and to help others saying, “there is no such thing as hopeless”. She suggests that you turn to God (your Higher Power) to seek help along with physicians and therapists.
May God bless you and your family and help you to know His love for you!

I understand what may have been going through his mind - the emptiness, the hopelessness, the nonfeelings, emotionlessness of it all. I also understand those who do not know or understand what happens to the mind and will be quick to judge, to blame and find fault. Yes, we are all masters of our own beings but each brain functions differently and sometimes we must relearn skills or with help learn new skills to help us deal with the way our own indivual brain functions. I too am hoping/praying he seeks/accepts the proper help for him. Be blessed, Owen!

(13) Vicky says:

As someone whom tried it once many, many years ago and was in a very bad place last year and thought about it, I can personally understand what can drive someone to such despair. What get’s me through is my faith in God and that things WILL get better. I’ll be praying for Owen that he may find the help he needs privately as should be and that he may place himself in God’s hands to completely heal himself of the causes that drove him to that point. I enjoy his acting and can’t even imagine him as he is privately but he has so much to give and live for that even he may not realize. My prayers are with him for a full recovery and for his family’s support and understanding in his time of need.

(15) Ruth says:

It is always very sad when a person believes their life is not worth anything and take measures to end it. I will pray that Owen gets the help he needs to value his life more than his life circumstances and or the opinions of others. God be with you, Owen.

My best wishes to Owen from someone who has tried several times to end his own live. I’ve known the anguish that pushes someone to see death as the only way out. I hope Owen can conquer his symptoms and live a healthy, happy life.

I’ll take this opportunity (?) to express my disgust at how shallow this site is. If anything, it is counter-productive to its stated purpose and frequently filled with misinformation. Please respond with an email address where I can directly communicate with the owner of the site. I believe it to be the NY Times and I’ve previously tried, only to receive no response.
Please respond.

So sad…it’s a great illustration though that anyone, anywhere can experience depression. I pray that Mr. Wilson and all others struggling with depression (such as myself) may find the peace and healing that Jesus Christ offers.

I agree with Mr. Eisen. There was nothing to be gained by providing this information or link to comment. It is not a question of secrecy. It is a matter of privacy and the needs of the individual affected.
