Definition: A normative group is usually referred to when discussing the properties of tests and measures. It refers to the sample of test takers who are representative of the population for whom the test is intended.

Example: The normative group for a test to diagnose depression in 5- to 10-year-olds in the United States would be a sample of 5- to 10-year-olds from various demographic groups in the United States.
