While the mechanisms that cause certain antidepressants to cause weight gain are not entirely worked out (metabolic effects and increased appetite have been implicated), it is clear that weight gain is one of the more frustrating antidepressant side effects people deal with. I think that the antidepressant you are using makes a big difference. I was lucky that I didn't experience any weight gain at all when I was using Prozac.
